Dear Troop Leaders of Service Unit #52-8, My name is Katelyn Sparks, and I am a Senior Girl Scout currently working on my Gold Award. I am asking for your troop’s help in collecting toiletry items November through January. For my Take Action Project, I am holding a carnival in March for teens and adults with disabilities. While the volunteers at the event itself must be 13 years or older, there is an opportunity for younger Girl Scouts to help. One of the activity stations available at the event will be a “Shopping Station,” where participants can fill bags with much needed toiletry items. Individuals with disabilities, particularly those who live in group homes, don’t often get an opportunity to go shopping or to pick out items for themselves. It is my hope that this station will provide them with a sense of independence while supplying them with items they need in their daily lives. I hope to have at least 150 participants at the carnival, which means we will need an abundance of toiletries. This is why I would like to enlist your troops to help with this cause. If you wish to participate, please forward the attached flyer to each of your scouts to customize with their information, make copies, and distribute in their neighborhoods in November, December, or January. I hope to have the items by early February, so once your troop has collected the items, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or (703)690-4487 to arrange pick-up or drop-off for your troop. Please email me with questions or to let me know if your troop is able to help with this project. This is an event which I hope will make an impact on the lives of the individuals with disabilities who participate, but I can’t put it on without your help. Thank you in advance for your support—it is greatly appreciated!
